Some sitters come to the party, others are forcibly dragged with clenched teeth. Some have experience with a camera pointed at them, others hate the whole damn process, and would rather do anything other than be in front of the camera.
Welcome to your photo session Felix.
Those are the best ones. The stubborn, the tough. Throw in a bit of heavy masculinity, and you are looking at one hell of a portrait session.
I took a few during that session, but the ones I loved (he hated all of them) were the final dozen in a dark corner of his dance studio (I know, he looks more like a trained assassin) with window light falling on his face.
I think it goes to show that the simpler your setup is the better. Don’t faff around with lights and reflectors, especially if you want to capture a very masculine look, and you can ‘see’ that the images are begging to be in black and white.
Just don’t ask them to smile.
Best wishes until next time, Don
