The reality is Instagram defines how a generation of photographers are shooting.
Like most things, it is a construct of corporate and consumer-led ideology. There is an Instagram ‘look’ that everyone follows. On the front page you see it repeatedly. All those images are popular. All those photographers are popular. All those images look the same.
I guess what I am trying to say is this: I want a platform that helps me discover new photography, not show me what is popular. It is like I want to discover new independent music, and all I get is Taylor Swift.
We are led to believe that we are making choices, that we have choices, where really that is not the case.
Ever noticed how every chocolate bar has the same handful of ingredients?
